As I was up early, I did a once round San Carlos before breakfast. There was a bit of activity around the harbour side, people relaxing and having breakfast. There were a few people trying to sell things and all the little shops were opening.
I found the breakfast cafe down the road. There was no menu and it was a case of 'what do you want. So I asked for fruit, scrambled eggs with tomatoes. And hot water for my tea bag. All good , but the tomatoes were chopped up in the scrambled egg and it came with some Gallo pinto, beans and rice and plantanos. All very tasty. However to avoid an international incident I had to pay, although the tour guide told me it was included and I didn't need a voucher. For 3$ I wasn't going to argue, but my tour guide says she will sort out. When I returned to my room, the power went off, it's still not back at midday and I am yet to discover if this is part of normal life like the lack of hot water. And the loo that appears to block temporarily when you do no. 2s!!!!!
Apparent no hotel rooms in San Carlos have hot water. The lack of electricity is tricky as the rooms are windowless. I am glad of my LED camping torch! After breakfast I did another tour of San Carlos, this time visiting the market and some of the little shops. There are some well priced cotton blouses which I thought might be useful, but none fitted. Mostly they were too small, but when I thought I had hit the right shop they were too big!
I arrived at the square thinking I might paint, when the clouds rolled in and there was a torrential downpour, a prime opportunity for an undercover coffee stop. After this I found a few more side streets and the Parque de los ninos, a lovely area for the children to play. And when the sun came out everyone was out painting their shops, some colours needed sun glasses!
At this point I returned to my dark room, to assemble my belongings and meet Marjiory for lunch. I hope she doesn't try to contact meas with no electricity, of course the wifi doesn't work!Temporarily wifi at restaurant but no more til I get to ometepe in 3 days!
